the route in short
Those few kilometres of cycle path between Villabassa / Niederdorf and Dobbiaco / Toblach we now know by heart, but we have to do them again for the third – and last! – time. We take State Road 51 of Alemagna (km 7), first skirting Lake Dobbiaco / Toblacher See (km 9), and then Lake Landro / Dürrensee (km 18). After reaching the Cimabanche Pass / Gemärk (km 22), we descend pleasantly to Cortina d’Ampezzo (km 37), San Vito di Cadore (km 49); to reach Tai di Cadore (km 66).

Environment and Landscape
A stage dedicated to the Dolomites, with a first part on the main road, which is definitely busy at certain times of day. Returning to Dobbiaco / Toblach, we turn decisively to the right onto the SS Alemagna, first skirting Lake Dobbiaco / Toblacher See, and then Lake Landro / Dürrensee, the only point on the valley floor from which it is possible to admire the north walls of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Monte Cristallo is there to bar our way, but, after Carbognin we reach Passo Cimabanche / Gemärk and begin to descend very comfortably towards Cortina under the three Tofane mountains. Just before the famous town, we take the Dolomite Cycle Path again and we will follow it to the end of the stage. And down again, between the Croda da Lago and the Pelmo on the right, and the Sorapis and Antelao on the left: a beautiful glimpse of the famous Dolomite peaks. The stage ends at the Locanda alla Stažion, a recently and lovingly restored old railway station.
